In 2018I was invited by a Singaporean director, Thong Pei Qin to be part of her collaborator team to Manipulate Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. The objective is to immerse and understand the vocabulary of the various forms of Animation Theatre, to prepare for our performance titled, Super Mermaid, in the following year as part of the festival's programme.

About the Festival

MANIPULATE Festival presents the very best of Scottish and international visual theatre, puppetry and animated film to adult audiences in Edinburgh and beyond. The Festival aims to engage and challenge our audiences with high-quality visually led work which pushes boundaries, plays with form and challenges perceptions.

All the work that we present seeks to bring life to the inanimate or to tell stories using primarily images rather than words. By bringing together visually stunning from across the globe with work which has been developed here in Scotland, we aim to spark opportunities for artistic exchange and to offer our audiences a diverse palette of rich visually led work.

The festival is produced by Puppet Animation Scotland.

2018

I made a trip to Edinburgh for a collaborative work with UK animation and theatre artists for a show we are performing in Manipulate Festival 2019 in Edinburgh. Part of the work in the trip was to attend several workshops on puppetry and animation. Part of the workshops were "Sign Mime by Ramesh Meyyappan" and "The terrain in which the puppet lives by by Eric Bass."

As I was immersing myself in these two workshops, I found many resonance in the actor's work in creating narration, visual expression and using the body as a sole storytelling device. I believe it is a great tool for an actor to expand his vocabulary and understanding the principle of physical animation on stage.
